Social Media

Today there is the never-ending debate as to whether or not social media is a positive or negative thing. Typically I use social media as a way to connect with friends that I do not get to see on a regular basis. Through social media, I am able to see what important events are going on in their lives or they had a great time somewhere. Also when I am on social media, I usually am drawn to different quotes, bible verses, or funny videos with animals or people. Social media also help me pass the time when I am bored or waiting for an appointment or meeting to begin. I believe that social meeting should be used to connect with others, who may be far away or those who are in the same profession as you. Today, our youth is consistently using their phones, tablets, etc. to access social media to connect with one another; I think they are really missing out on the so-called typical school interaction between their peers.
As I mentioned before, I really like inspirational quotes that I find via social media. The quote below really stuck out to me because it is talking about how as educators, we must connect with our students on a personal level. I think it is important to connect with students on a personal level because they will have a greater tendency to like you as an educator due to the fact who are putting in the extra effort to get to know them. Also if both the teacher and students are on the same page then the possibilities in the classroom are endless.

  1. Hey, Emma! I loved your ideas on social media. I often hear parents in my son's school discuss how all the kids are always on some sort of device or social media in a negative way. I think to some extent kids overuse social media, and there are always safety concerns where the web is concerned. However, I also think that there are a lot of lonely kids in the world, and the power and opportunity they have to connect with peers that may not even live in the same state can be very positive and influential to them. Kids now have a whole world of people their age to make friends with, and aren't limited to social groups in their schools. Great post!
